Saxe-Gotha-Altenburg. Friedrich III Taler 1755-LCK MS65 NGC, Gotha mint, KM297, Dav-2721. Mintage: 537. A paragon of this scarce type that demands a high premium in any state of preservation, struck to commemorate the 200th anniversary of the Augsburg Settlement, which crystallized a peaceful division between Catholic and Lutheran denominations within the Holy Roman Empire. Enlivening the ever-blooming fields is a spectacular cabinet cloak that activates at the turn of a wrist, a proud companion to devices that face up finer on the obverse than other locatable specimens. NGC's "top pop" - no surprise to this cataloger.
