German States
Saxony. Friedrich the Wise 2 Guldengroschen (Taler) ND (1507) MS61 NGC, Hall or Dresden mint, Dav-9699, Schnee-36. With the name and title of Maximilian I. Friedrich the Wise founded the University of Wittenberg where Martin Luther taught and is remembered as the man who saved Martin Luther from the fury of the Catholic Church. Dressed in an old world graphite patination with glints of blue and peach, this scarce and well struck example would make a fine addition to any Taler collection, especially as the finest certified.
Ex. Johann Max Böttcher Collection (Harald Möller Auction 47, November 2007, Lot 814) From the Cape Coral Collection, Part II
