German States
Saxony. Friedrich August I Taler 1696-IK MS64 NGC, Dresden mint, KM675, Dav-7653, Schnee-987. Struck to commemorate the birth of the Prince Elector who would later succeed his father as Elector of Saxony Friedrich August II. An always hotly contested issue in any condition, let alone on the cusp of a seemingly deserving Gem Mint State designation. Scarce to say the least, with auction appearances just once every few years. Highly ornate, showcasing complex motifs from a successful hand and fully embossed on the argent canvas beneath. Clearly tucked away soon after its striking, resulting in a pleasing mint flash and cabinet tone that elevates the offering's eye appeal. A truly enthralling representative who, according to NGC census data, is bested by none conditionally.
