German States
Saxony. Friedrich August I Taler 1702 IL-H MS65 PCGS, Dresden mint, KM707, Dav-2647 (Dav-7656). An exceedingly scarce 18th century issue struck by the elector of Saxony and King of Poland, and one almost exclusively witnessed in gently handled states of preservation. Likely the result of having been tucked away soon after its production, confirmed by a complete lack of distracting marks and vibrant cabinet tone saturated in lavender and cobalt hues. Benefitting from an exacting strike that renders even the details of the fur accents fully discernible, the current offering remains a visual and conditional outlier. Clearly head-and-shoulders above both certified populations and those brought to market in the last few decades, with the next finest in the censuses ranking a mere MS61. With this in mind, we anticipate an elevated bidder response. From the Cape Coral Collection, Part II
