CYPRUS. Citium. Demonicus (ca. 388-387 BC). AR stater (22mm, 9.90 gm, 12h). NGC XF 5/5 - 2/5. Athena standing facing, head left, grounded spear in right hand, shield in left; ayin (Aramaic) in left field / Dmnks Mlk Lpsh (Aramaic), Heracles advancing right, nude but for lion skin tied around neck and draped behind, club in right hand, bow in left; ankh in right field, all in incuse square. Traité II 1221, pl. CXXXI, 12 (Citium). BMC p. xxxix, a and pl. XIX, 9 (Citium). Tziambazis 32 (Citium). SNG Copenhagen 23 (Lapethus). Solidly struck and well centered. An extremely rare type with only around five pieces known.
Recent scholarship reassigns this issue to Lapethus, based on the obverse type, associating the full standing figure with known types showing Athena's head on coins of Lapethus from around 480 BC.
