Franz Joseph I Proof "Railway" 2 Taler 1857-A PR64 NGC, Vienna mint, KM2246.1, Dav-20, Herinek-821. Wreath tips between 'KA.' Commemorating the completion of the South Austrian Railway between Vienna and Trieste, a technological feat at the time, spanning approximately 350 miles in length and featuring one of the earlier depictions of a locomotive on a coin. An always appreciable type, especially when encountered at comparable stages of preservation and aesthetic caliber. Gunmetal gray decorates the coin's entirety while cerulean and violet hues silhouette needle-sharp devices. A more coveted issue within Franz Joseph I's greater commemorative series.
