Edward III (1327-1377) gold Noble ND (1361-1369) MS65 PCGS, Calais mint, Cross Potent mm, Treaty Period, S-1504, N-1236. 7.62gm. ЄD | WARD: DЄI: GRA: RЄX: AnGL: DnS: hyB' x Z (retrograde) x AQ | T' (double saltire stops), Crowned Edward facing, standing in ship, sword in right hand, shield in left, flag at stern / + IhC: AVTЄm: TRAnSIЄnS: PЄR: mЄDIV: ILLORVm: IBAT (double saltire stops), large floriate cross with C at center, crowned lions in angles, all within polylobe with trefoils in spandrels. An awe-inspiring piece born of an exacting strike that has gone practically undisturbed, no small feat for type prone to weakness. Original luster pools in the expanses, mimicking the rippling of the water represented on the obverse, elevating the specimen to an uncontested Gem status. The highest at PCGS with only one MS67 at NGC, we expect this offering to garner much enthusiasm amongst collectors of the English hammered series.
