Mary gold Angel (1553-1554) MS64 NGC, Tower mint, Pomegranate mm, S-2490A, N-1958. 5.10gm. Of all the Angel types and varieties, the piece at hand endures among the scarcest, a fact confirmed by a sheer paucity of auction results in recent decades. While a generally difficult series to find in anything considered appreciable and approaching Gem Mint State designations, those struck during Mary's short, sole reign are among the most prized. Only slightly off-center yet laudably bold, with the central details fully discernible and enlivened by a golden sheen only witnessed to the most advanced survivors. For this type submitted to NGC the offering at hand stands leaps and bounds above the only other occupant, a lowly VF, and with this in mind, we anticipate the bidder response to be quite hectic.
