Great Britain
Commonwealth gold Unite 1649 MS63 NGC, Sun mm, KM395.1, S-3208, N-2715, Schneider-337. 9.03gm. The first year of issue for this famed series, one this cataloger takes particular interest in as a clear deviation from both past and future issues, remaining a fascinating relic produced during an incredibly tumultuous era in British history. Increasingly sought-after in recent years with more examples in decidedly Mint State coming to market, nearly all bested in conditional quality by the piece at hand. Among all certified specimens between NGC and PCGS, census data confirms that for the series, none rank finer than MS63. While an uncharacteristically crisp striking decorates the coin's entirety, typical planchet imperfections common for the era lightly obscure the central details. This, though, is largely unnoticed while framed in brilliant aurous flash, highlighting an abundance of captivating die polish that will surely land this piece in an advanced type collection.
