George III gold Coronation Medal 1761 MS64 NGC, Eimer-694, BHM-22. 34mm. 23.21gm. By. L. Natter. A jaw-dropping representative of this Coronation commemorative. The state of preservation is obviously enviable, the devices meticulously rendered and better kept on George's high relief bust than the MS61 examples we have brought to auction. Unencumbered Prooflike resplendence dances in the fields, throwing flashes of light around the flan. A lack of tone, apart from a tiny amber spot at 7 o'clock on the obverse, imbues the piece with a sense of stability and calm, an ironic counterbalance to an otherwise specimen. We expect the excitement on the block to match the excitement we have when viewing this in hand.
Privately purchased from A.H. Baldwin in the early 1920s.
