George VI gold Proof 5 Pounds 1937 PR66 Ultra Cameo NGC, KM861, S-4074, W&R-435. Mintage: 5,500. A conditionally thrilling representative from George VI's coronation set in gold, struck after the abdication of the new monarch's brother Edward VIII. A most deserving designation from NGC, technically speaking with a most advanced "Ultra Cameo" superlative. While examples up through Gem assignment are somewhat prolific in our auctions, to find those in comparable grades and finer, a mere five percent of the certified population, are exceedingly difficult. Brilliance abounds the harvest gold fields who depth is seemingly endless, advancing the frosted motifs towards the viewer when witnessed in hand. A most wonderful outlier for the type and surely worthy of additional consideration.
