Mexico
Ferdinand VII gold 8 Escudos 1821 GA-FS AU58 NGC, Guadalajara mint, KM161.1, Cal-1748. Plain bust variety. A rare Colonial type from the final year of Spanish rule in Mexico, highly desirable in any grade and especially so on the cusp of Mint State. A scattering of tangerine tone skips across the obverse, a welcome divergence on the otherwise untoned flan. Intrepid luster enlivens the bold peripheries which are tempered by a touch of central weakness, a rather common occurrence in this series. With only one certified Mint State representative across NGC and PCGS, we anticipate bidding activity commensurate with the accessibility of this selection.
