Holland. Provincial gold Proof Pattern Ducaton (10 Ducat or Gold Rider) 1687 UNC Details (Reverse Damage) NGC, KM-Pn19, Fr-Unl., Delm-788 (R1), CNM-2.28.84, PW-Ho45.6. 42mm. 34.32gm. Struck to a 10 Ducat weight using the same dies employed in the production of the silver Ducatons of the same date. A key off-metal strike, noted as a "trial in gold" by Delmonte and similarly recognized as a Pattern by the Standard Catalog of World Coins. While we encounter the occasional pocket of these highly coveted gold strikings of silver issues, rarely do we see them in such density within the same auction. Here on offer is the largest of these, full in both its quality and the impact of its expression.
