West Friesland. Provincial gold Gulden 1682 MS61 NGC, KM-Pn9, Fr-Unl., Delm-852 (R2), PW-Wf44.3. 32mm. 10.45gm. A tremendous representative of a usually seldom-encountered off-metal issue, struck to a weight of 3 Ducats and noted as a Pattern by the Standard Catalog of World Coins. As specialists will be well aware, these issues were produced by the same dies used to strike the "regular" (and conditionally still very scarce) Guldens of the same period. Gold emissions are highly elusive, particularly in finer surviving states, and likely served as presentation pieces to important officials, thus indicating that their value and importance was well-recognized by owners in even contemporary times. This resulted in both an advanced aesthetic caliber and level of preservation, and is expected to be a fiercely contested piece when coming to auction. From the Coenen Collecion
