PTOLEMAIC EGYPT. Ptolemy I Soter (305/4-282 BC). AR stater or tetradrachm (28mm, 15.68 gm, 12h). NGC VF 5/5 - 3/5, graffito, overstruck. Alexandria, first reduced standard, plain series, ca. 306-300 BC. Horned head of deified Alexander III right, wearing elephant headdress, mitra, and scaly aegis tied before neck; Δ where the aegis and headdress meet, dotted border / AΛEΞANΔPOY, Athena advancing right, brandishing spear in right hand, shield on left arm; HP monogram in inner right field, helmet right above eagle standing right on thunderbolt in outer right field, dotted border. CPE 65. Svoronos 170. Firmly struck with the Δ (engraver's "signature") nicely visible despite moderate wear for the grade. Additionally, the bold reverse offers peach shadows and a whisper of deep turquoise.
