PARENS PATRIAE-CAESAR, veiled and wreathed head of Julius Caesar right; apex behind, lituus right before / C•COSSVTIVS MARID-IANVS arranged in form of a cross; A-A-A-F•F in the angles. Crawford 480/19. Sydenham 1069. Charcoal toning of the recesses imbues the piece with a somber atmosphere.
