Marc Antony (43-30 BC). AR denarius (18mm, 3.47 gm, 5h). NGC Choice VF 3/5 - 1/5, bent. Legionary issue, mint traveling with Antony in Greece (Aegae or Patrae), 32-31 BC. ANT•AVG• / III•VIR•R•P•C, war galley under oar right with triple ram prow and scepter tied with fillet / LEG-VIIII, aquila right between two signa. Crawford 544/22. Sydenham 1226. Nicely toned.

In 41 BC, Octavian founded Legio IX Hispana in Eboracum (York, Britain), recalling the veterans of the previous 9th legion to battle Sextus Pompey in Sicily. This legion is also known as Legio nona Hispana and Legio VIIII Hispana.
