Constantinople. +IhS IXS RЄX-RЄϚNANTIhm, Christ seated facing on throne with upright arms, wearing nimbus cruciger, pallium, and colobium, right hand raised in benediction, book of Gospels in left; double border / +KWN RACΛ-O ΔOVKAC, Constantine X, bearded, standing facing on footstool, wearing crown with pendilia, saccos, and loros, six pellets on sleeve, labarum with X on shaft in right hand, globus cruciger in left; double border. DO -. Sear -, cf. 1847. Solidly struck from fresh dies. Attractive light orange toning on lustrous surfaces.
Although the variety with the X on labarum is documented for Nicephorus III (AD 1078-1081), neither Sear nor Dumbarton Oakes note any specimens for Constantine X.
