Victoria gold 'Missing Berry' 1/2 Sovereign 1856-SYDNEY VF25 NGC, Sydney mint, KM1, Marsh-381A (R3). Although the normal 1856 Sydney 1/2 Sovereign is quite readily available to collectors thanks to the hoard discoveries, the offering at hand is the very rarely seen Type II reverse variant with missing berry above the 'L' in HALF, and one that is hotly contested whenever making an appearance on the marketplace. Whilst this is the first example of this exceedingly rare type we have had the pleasure of handling, we note that this specimen is conditionally vastly superior to the NGC VG8 graded piece that was sold elsewhere in August 2021 for approximately $3,000.
