Republic silver "Battle of Ayacucho" Medal ND (c. 1825) AU55 NGC, Potosi mint, Barac-3, Fonrobert-9449, 42x35mm. Instituted 11 August 1825. Obverse: Bolívar standing on Potosí holding Liberty Cap, radiant sun in background, pillar decorated with cannons and flags below. Reverse: "La Republica Bolivar Agradecida Al Heroe Cuyo Nombre Lleva" (The Bolivar (Bolivian) Republic [Is] Grateful to the Hero Whose Name it Bears). An attractive offering of this rare Medal produced for the Bolivian victory at the Battle of Ayacucho, despite Ross and Stahl noting that few Bolivian troops were believed to have fought in the battle. Presenting lustrous surfaces with little to no signs of handling to the deeply-toned motifs.
