Great Britain
Kings of All England. Aethelstan Penny ND (924-939) MS62 NGC, London mint, Herrilmon? as moneyer, Horizontal Two-line (HT1) type, S-1089, cf. N-668 (this moneyer not listed). 1.63gm. A nearly unfathomably fine specimen considering the age, scarcity, and general brittleness of the type, where so many of these early silver Pennies fall victim to crystallization and chipping. Here we feature this rare series, fully struck-up, and perfectly centered, with all details easily discernible and punctuated by a light cabinet tone. We have been unable to locate any moneyers remotely close to the "HERR/ILMON" to the reverse, combing the BNS and Fitzwilliam Museum archives. As such, we anticipate fervent interest.
