Charles I silver "Death and Memorial" Medal ND (1649) MS62 NGC, Eimer-162b, MI-I-347/201. 34mm. Dies by J. Roettiers. These Medals were struck under the order of Charles II as a memorial to his father, who was beheaded in 1649 for treason, and are more commonly found in the bronze format. The obverse features the draped and armored bust of Charles I facing right. EX٠ME٠FORTVNAM٠EX٠ALIJS٠VIRTVE (translates from Latin to "Learn virtue from me, good fortune from others."); the Hand of God extending a crown above an English landscape. Darkly patinated with underlying brilliance.
