Douglas. Douglas Bank silver Proof 5 Shillings Token 1811 MS63 PCGS, Birmingham mint, KM-Tn14, Prid-46. By T. Halliday. A seldom-seen rendition of this short-lived issuer well represented by a razor-sharp piece. Virtually Proof-like surfaces are dressed in a dark cabinet tone which does not hide the field's reflectivity.
The rarity of these tokens is underlined by the brief existence of the issuing enterprise, the Douglas Bank. It was opened in November of 1811 by three partners, two of whom sued each other out of business when one attempted to leave the island, resulting in the closure of the bank a mere three months later in January of 1812.
