LIVIA AUGUSTA (WIFE OF AUGUSTUS). AE Dupondius, Rome Mint, Struck under Titus, A.D. 80-81. NGC VF. Smoothing.
RIC-426 (Titus). Obverse: Veiled, diademed, and draped bust of Livia, as Pietas, right; Reverse: Legend around large S C. Retaining an attractive portrait and deep patina despite some smoothing in the fields.

While the portrait on this restitution issue is typically identified as Livia Augusta, it has been suggested by David Vagi of NGC that it actually depicts Livilla, the wife of Emperor Tiberius' son Drusus and the mistress of the Praetorian Prefect Sejanus. For more, see David Vagi, Coinage and History of the Roman Empire II, pg. 127.

Estimate: $200 - $300
