Ti. Sempronius Gracchus, 40 v. Chr. oder später. Denar (3,98g). Mzst. Rom. Vs.: Kopf des Caesar mit Lorbeerkranz n.r. Rs.: TI SEMPRONIVS GRACCVS Q DES / S - C, Vexillum, Aquila, Pflug und Decempeda. Cr. 525/4c; Syd. 1128a.

Großer Schrötling, Rs. leichte Prägeschwäche, ss-vz
This coin was struck by the moneyer Ti. Sempronius Gracchus in 40 BC. in Rome. The issue bears on its obverse the portrait of the deified Julius Caesar, making it clear where his allegiance lay. Though Gracchus' coin inscriptions indicate he was quaestor designate, nothing else is known of his life. The reverse type, which shows a legionary eagle, a military standard, a plow and a surveyor's rod, is a clear allusion to Octavian's resettlement of veterans. After the Battle of Philippi in October, 42 B.C., Octavian began the thankless task of settling some 40,000 veterans on their promised lands.
