IRELAND: Irish Free State, proof set, 1928, KM-PS1, 8-piece set in original green plush case, many of the pieces are toned, but a choice set, only 6,001 sets minted, Choice Proof, S, ex Joe Sedillot Collection. British rule of Ireland ended in 1926 with the establishment of the Irish Free State. Desiring a unique set of Irish designs, a selection committee was formed and headed by poet W.B. Yeats. So as to avoid controversial religious or political themes, the group selected agricultlural / animal motifs.
