NOTE: This coin has unfortunately had a piece of the rim chipped off (see photo). Please keep this in mind when bidding.
ABBASID: al-Ma'mun, 810-833, AV heavy weight dirham (3.89g), Fars, AH204, A-224H, also citing 'Ali b. Musa al-Rida as on the previous lot; extremely rare mint/date combination; pierced and with an attached soldered ring, to be worn showing the reverse, VF, RRR.
This would have been proudly worn to reveal the owner's support for the Sunni/Shi'ite unification promised by the caliph al-Ma'mun. Thus the attachment and the presentation of the unifaction is of great historic importance. In addition, Fars is the rarest mint for the unifaction series (none on CoinArchives or Zeno).
Estimate: 500-700 USD
