ROMAN REPUBLIC: P. Licinius Crassus, AR denarius (4.12g), Rome, 55 BC, Crawford-430/1, diademed and draped bust of Venus right, S C to left // soldier standing facing, holding spear and bridle of horse standing left behind, cuirass and shield below, P [CRASSVS] M F, Choice VF. Publius Licinius Crassus was a son of Marcus Licinius Crassus, who was a member of the First Triumvirate and the richest man in Rome at the time. Publius served under his father's ally, Julius Caesar, in Gaul before returning to Rome to take up the position of triumvir monetalis. He later accompanied his father to Syria on the campaign against the Parthian Empire, where both men met their end at the disastrous Battle of Carrhae.
