Saudi Arabia, Hejaz (c. 1916), countermarked coinage on Ottoman issues, 40-Para, AH1327 / 5 (unclear), 20-Para, AH1327 / 5, both countermarked al-Hejaz in Arabic on obverse, (host coins KM 761, 766, with countermark KM 3, 4), host coins about fine, countermarks fine or better (2).
Following the defeat of the Ottomans in 1916, some Turkish coins were countermarked for circulation in Hejaz. The countermark was deliberately placed over the Turkish Tughra on the obverse to mark the change of rule.
