Europe - medal, "Christian Jesus, King of the Jews" - exceptional and extremely rare - 1700's,
An extremely rare museum piece
Face: a relief of Jesus hanging on a cross and below it are 2 figures, which are the Virgin Mary and St. John
Back: a particularly large relief of Jesus facing left, above his head is a halo and around the inscription in Latin: "IESVS NAZARENVS REX IVDEORVM" (INRI)
The medal shows two of the languages that were on the cross, Latin and Hebrew. A similar British Museum specimen was published in 1920 by the well-known British Numismatic G.F Hill in his book (see last image and reference below).
Bronze with small gilt traces (gold or gold-like plating) on the front and back, 44 mm (48 including the loop at the top), 21.62 g.
