THRACE, Philippopolis. Antoninus Pius. AD 138-161. Æ (31mm, 21.43 g, 6h). M. Antonius Zeno, legatus Augusti pro praetore Thraciae. Struck AD 142-144. Bareheaded bust right, slight drapery / River-god Hebrus reclining left, holding grain ears and cornucopia, resting on rock from which water flows. Varbanov, Philippopolis VI.4.3; Mouchmov, Philippopolis –; RPC IV.1 Online 7633 corr. (obv. drapery); Varbanov –. Blue-green patina, slight roughness. VF. Extremely rare; three known to Varbanov, one in RPC. This is the finest of the five known specimens and the only one to show the drapery clearly on the obverse.
