ABBASID, al-Ma'mun 'Abd Allah, 194-218 AH(810-833 AD). AR Dirhem (2.65 gm; 23 mm). (Abu Ja'far, b. al-Rashid), obverse, Shahadah, reverse, Lillah followed by Shahadah for Prophet Mohamad, followed by phrase : mama bil amr al imam "Ma'mun" Amir-al Mo'menin, Al Fadl. mint; Samarqand, year 195. This is an important coin in the chronology of conflict between Amin and his brother Ma'mun, a year before in 194 AH. Amin removed Ma'mun as his successor and replaced him with his son Musa and gave him the title of "Natiq bil Haqq" next year with the effort of Ma'mun's grand vizir, Zadan Farrukh-e Sarakhsi akqa Fadl ibn Sahl and his Persian commanders from Tahirid dynasty, the battle was fought where Amin was killed and Ma'mun came to power in 195 AH. Fadl's mention is most likely a sign of appreciation of Ma'mun toward his grand vizir. Choice Superb EF. Lightly toned. Extremely rare mint and issue. Superb strike.
Estimate: 250 USD
