World War I: George V, War medal awarded to an Anzac casualty (830 Pte. W. S. Coleman. 132-Bn. A.I.F.), extremely fine
William Shedrock Coleman died on 27 April 1915, just 2 days after the Australian Infantry had started the landings at Gallipoli. He is named on the Lone Pine Cemetery Memorial.
The landings commenced on 25 April 1915 at 4:30am and the rest of the Anzacs came ashore throughout the day. By the evening, despite strong Turkish counter-attacks, the Anzacs held a narrow triangle of land roughly 2km long at its base on the coast and extending to just under 1km inland at its widest. By 3am on 26 April 1915 more than 1700 casualties had been evacuated from the area of the Anzac landing, mainly via the beach to the south of Ari Burnu, which by the next day (the day of Coleman's death) became known as 'Anzac Cove'.

Estimate: 80 - 120 GBP
