The Robert P Ball Cabinet of Ancient Coins | Bruttium, Kroton, AR Drachm, c. 280-250 BC, head of Heracles right, wearing tania, rev. owl standing left, KRO before, ear of grain to left, 3.06g, 9h (Attianese, Kroton 153; HN Italy 2195; SNG ANS, 421; Jameson 436), clear and concise strike with only minor traces of porosity on reverse, otherwise beautifully lustrous and lightly toned, extremely fine.
Although the obverse die is generally assumed to portray Heracles, it may also be the case that it depicts either a river god or the famous wrestler, Milo of Kroton
