The Robert P Ball Cabinet of Ancient Coins | Sicily, Naxos, AR Drachm, c. 461-430 BC, bearded and ivy-wreathed head of Dionysus right, rev. N-AXI-ON, bearded and naked Silenos, seated left, with ruffled hair and long tail, facing towards canarthus in his right hand while his left is rested upon knee, tail showing behind leg, 4.35g, 2h (Cahn 56, dies V41/R47; SNG ANS 518-519 these dies; Jameson 676 these dies; SNG Copenhagen 486 these dies; SNG Lloyd 1152), lustrous and toned with a pleasing strike in high relief, details well preserved, slightly off centre but otherwise a really very fine example of a great and highly-sought rarity, marvellous.
