The Robert P Ball Cabinet of Ancient Coins | Boeotia, Thebes, AR Stater, c. 480-460 BC, Boeotian shield with plain rim, rev. Archaic theta at centre of incuse square of anti-clockwise 'mill sail' pattern (Myron Hoard, Pl. A, no. 16; Pozzi 3237; BMC 1 var. = Barclay Head [Boeotia], pp.16, VII and, Pl. I, no. 7; BCD Boiotia 344; SNG Copenhagen 248), an imposing strike even with the central theta quite flat, the surfaces appearing like 'beaten metal' with specks of red wax in recesses, nevertheless a pleasingly good very fine.
