Anne bronze "Mons Taken" Medal 1709 MS63 Brown NGC, MI-362-202, Eimer-440. 40mm. By J. Croker and Samuel Bull. Obv. Draped, left-facing bust of Queen Anne, her hair held back by two rows of pearls. Rev. Figure of Victory flying left with palm frond and laurel wreath; city below. Commemorating the bloody capturing of Mons during the War of the Spanish Succession. Mahogany envelops the skillfully engraved devices, including the early 18th-century city view of Mons. Admitting some contact marks, this example shares the top spot in the NGC census.
