George II silver "William & Anne Marriage" Medal 1734-Dated MS62 NGC, MI-510-61, Eimer-532. 29mm. By M. Holtzhey. Obv. Conjoined busts right. Rev. Prince and Princess in a naval car drawn by two horses. The marriage between William of Orange and Princess Anne, daughter of George II, had been arranged for November 1733, but the prince succumbed to a severe attack of pleurisy a day before the proposed ceremony, and it was postponed until March 1734. They sailed to Rotterdam as newlyweds and were received at Leeuwarden on May 1. Skillfully designed and rendered at the Amsterdam workshop of Holtzhey, the distinctive motifs contain hardly a trace of weakness. Iridescent toning yields an impression of quality. Extremely scarce with this the only example known at either grading service. From the Abbeygate Collection of British Medals
