Great Britain
Edward VIII silver "Coronation" Medal 1937 MS63 NGC, BHM-4291. 35mm. By J. Pinches. Obv. Crowned and draped bust right of Edward VIII. Rev. Crown on crossed scepters on a Tudor rose. Edward VIII faced condemnation from the British government for his decision to marry the American divorcée, Wallis Simpson. He aborted the intended coronation and decided to abdicate in December 1936. Bewitching coloration graces this splendidly attractive specimen. Edward's crown seems almost electrified as it radiates alternating ember tones that are accentuated by the surrounding charcoal-filled fields. On the center reverse, shades of salmon and peach turn a sublime navy blue along the peripheries. The eye appeal here goes on for days. From the Abbeygate Collection of British Medals
