ROMAN REPUBLICAN. Anonymous. Circa 211 B.C. AR victoriatus. 3.07 gm. 16 mm. Mint in Spain. Laureate head of Jupiter right / Victory standing right, crowning trophy; below, incuse ROMA on tablet. Crawford 96/1. Sydenham -. RSC 8. Good Very Fine; nicely toned; light porosity (the victoriatus was struck using less pure silver than the denarius). Superficial scuffs in beard and eyebrow on obverse. Extremely Rare. (Nomos sold one in September, 2022 for $3830, calling it "the finest of just seven examples offered at auction in the last 20 years.").

Berk tag: "ROMA is incuse on tablet. Very rare--only seven specimens were known to Crawford: 'The issue should be regarded as having been struck by C. or P. Cornelius Scipio (in Spain) before their defeats by the Carthaginians in 211' (Crawford, p. 23). There are no specimens in Berk photo file."
