Nero and Drusus Caesar (brothers of Caligula). Died A.D. 31 and 33. Æ dupondius. 17.52 gm. 29 mm. Rome mint. Struck under Gaius (Caligula), A.D. 37-38. Nero and Drusus on horseback riding right; NERO ET DRVSVS CAESARES / C CAESAR AVG GERMANICVS PON M TR POT around large S C. RIC I 34 (Gaius). Near Very Fine; rich mahogany patina; light smoothing; edge from 1-5' obverse filed smooth and flat, some old cuts in opposite edge from 9-10' and some lighter edge marks at 12'. Struck on a notably full and heavy flan.

Struck to commemorate the adopted grandsons and heirs of Tiberius, Nero and Drusus. Accused of treason, the boys died in exile in A.D. 31 and 33. Their younger brother Caligula was also adopted by Tiberius, but he became emperor in A.D. 37.
