Roman Empire, Nerva (AD96-98), AE Sestertius, 97, IMP NERVA CAES AVG P M T R P COS III P P, laureate head right, rev., FISCI IVDAICI CALVMNIA SVLBATA, palm tree with S-C in fields to left and right, 6h, (RIC 82) a rare and intriguing artefact of Nerva's attempt at egalitarian provincial tax reform. Instituted as a means of redressing punitive taxes levied on Jews by Rome since the days of Vespasian, and a wider drive towards legal equity across the empire. Slightly flattened but nevertheless fine.
