Roosevelt, Theodore "Teddy". Twenty-sixth President of the United States (1901-1909), vice-president under McKinley, statesman, conservationist, naturalist, historian and writer. Letter Signed" "Theodore Roosevelt". One page typed, 8 ½ x 11", on Kansas City Star, NY Office letterhead, May 7, 1918. Roosevelt tells the "Gentlemen" (of the firm Habicht, Braun & Co) that he wishes he "could help the Sergeant Major", but is "absolutely powerless" saying "If you have seen my public writings you know how I feel in this matter" then signs in black below. Accompanied by related typed letter from Habicht, Braun & Co. and signed by J. McCabe to Sgt. Major R.A. Palecek, 20th Machine Gun Battalion, Camp MacArthur, Waco TX, May 18, 1918. McCabe acknowledges letter from Roosevelt and from Senator Wadsworth, notes he cannot find the Examiner of the Bureau of Naturalization "in this city", but will try Washington, mentions the passing of a bill in the Senate and House, and ends in the hope that the Sgt. Major has received "encouraging news". McCabe writes in pen in bottom margin: "The enclosed Liberty Loan Primer may get a giggle from you..." Light staple stain. Very Good..
