[Russian Imperial]: Nicholas I, Emperor of Russia, 1825-1855. Third son of Paul, succeeded his brother Alexander to the Imperial throne; under his reign Russia achieved its greatest geographical expansion, saw economic growth and massive industrialization, but conversely suffered under Nicholas' reactionary ways and his repression of dissent and ultimately the failure of his domestic and foreign policies; instrumental in creating an independent Greek state. Document Signed "Nicholas" as emperor. One-page, handwritten Decree in Russian, 7 1/3 x 11 ¾", April 20, 1832. The Decree is for the Order of St. Anne 3rd Class to be bestowed on St. Petersburg's Platz-Adjutant (parade ground adjutant) Captain Rtischev, Leib-Guard Semenovsky Regiment.
