Thomson, Alexander "Greek" (1817-1875). Eminent Glaswegian architect; architectural theorist and pioneer in the field of sustainable building; starting mid-20th Century, his critical reputation began being revived, some in conjunction with his likely influence on Frank Lloyd Wright. Autograph Letter Signed "Alex Thomson". One page, 8 x 10", dated January 27, 1849. Thomson writes to fellow architect James Lawson: "I leave in the morning for Wilmington NC on account of the Atlantic on short notice, expect to be gone not over a fortnight". He signs and dates the letter below. With integral address leaf, franked "New York Jan 28". Seal tear from opening nearly touches final letter in "Thomson", otherwise Very Good. Very rare..
