Career American army officer, Commander of Allied Forces in the Philippines during WWII, survived Bataan Death March and was held prisoner of the Japanese after the Allied surrender in the Philippines until rescued by the Red Army, August 1945, recipient of the Medal of Honor. Signature as a Free Frank. Wainwright signs in large, bold hand, General, United States Army on front of envelope postmarked "San Antonio Texas Jul 7 1947". Accompanied by a facsimile of the May 6, 1942 letter Wainwright sent President Roosevelt on the surrender of Corregidor to the Japanese. Very Fine.
