Colombia, Ferdinand VII (1808-1820), gold 8-Escudos, 1809 P-JF, Popayán mint, draped bust of Charles IV right, date below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, FERDND. VII. D. G. HISP. ET IND. R., rev. crowned coat of arms of the House of Bourbon centre dividing denomination 8 S, all within ornate chain of the Order of the Gold Fleece, P and JF below, Latin legend and toothed border surrounding, IN. UTROQ. FELIX. AUSPICE. DEO, edge reeded, 27.03g (Fr. 61; KM 66.2; Cal. 1807). A highly appealing example of colonial Spanish gold, and the largest gold coin minted in Colombia. Whilst the obverse appears to have been lightly cleaned a long time ago, it retains good mint lustre, as well as some light orange toning in the peripheries, overall about extremely fine.

The Latin legend on the obverse translates as "Ferdinand the Seventh by the Grace of God, King of Spain and India," and on the reverse as "Under the gaze of God, in one world and the other."
