George III (1760-1820), gilt proof copper Halfpenny, 1806, Soho Mint Birmingham, laureate bust right, date below, Latin legend and beaded border surrounding, GEORGIUS III. D: G. REX, rev. Britannia seated on rocks facing left with shield and trident, arm extended holding olive branch, sea with ship in background, SOHO below right, inscription BRITANNIA above, edge grained (Peck 1357; KH33; S.3781). Lightly toned in fields but otherwise almost as struck with a pronounced cameo, graded by NGC as PF66 CAMEO.

The Latin legend translates as "George the Third by the Grace of God, King".

These special presentation proofs were struck in gilt copper at Matthew Boulton's Soho Mint Manufactory in Birmingham using the steam presses invented by James Watt. Boulton and Watt appeared together on the reverse of the recently replaced UK £50 banknote.
