Lu'lu'ids. Badr al-Din Lu'lu. AH 631-657 / AD 1234-1259. AV Dinar (25.9mm, 6.43 g, 1h). Al-Mawsil mint. Dated AH 646 (AD 1248/9). Citing the Ayyubid ruler al-Nasir Yusuf as overlord. Jafar 51; Album 1871.6. A typically crude striking; test-cut in edge.. Good Fine. Rare, a one-year type.
Jafar records that the al-Nasir Yusuf captured Hims in this year, posing a threat to Mosul. For his own protection, Lu'lu felt it prudent to acknowledge al-Nasir as his overlord, something which he proclaimed on the coinage as well as having the Ayyubid's name read in the khutba in Mosul during this year.
