SICILY. Syracuse. Dionysios I, 406-367 B.C. AR Tetradrachm (17.22 gms). NGC Ch F, Strike: 4/5 Surface: 5/5. Fine Style.
HGC-2, 1342; Tudeer-74; SNG ANS-284 (same dies). Unsigned dies in the style of Parmenides. Obverse: Charioteer driving fast quadriga left, in mid left turn, Nike above flying right, crowning charioteer, ear of grain in exergue; Reverse: Head of Arethusa facing left, wearing sphendone ornamented with stars, hair bound in ampyx, ethnic above, four dolphins around. A well-centered and boldly struck Tetradrachm in fine Syracusan style. Moderately circulated and exhibiting minor edge splits.
